York has been awarded funding to open a 24/7 Mental Health Neighbourhood Centre, in the West of the city which will be located at Acomb Garth, supporting the communities in Acomb, Holgate and Westfield.
This centre is part of an innovative approach to delivering mental health support, offering a welcoming, accessible space for anyone in need of help at any time of day or night.
The hub will encompass a multi-agency team, including team members from Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV), York Mind, York Carers Centre, and City of York Council, alongside connections with partners from across the city.
Think of it as a one-stop shop for mental health and wellbeing, designed to provide a wide range of support services under one roof. The hub will also have strong connections to the local community, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and supported.
The centre at Acomb Garth is the second of three planned mental health hubs across York, as part of a city-wide offer to ensure everyone has access to mental health support close to home.
The first Community Mental Health Hub provides a daytime offer, located in the city centre and the third Hub will also be a day time offer located in the Tang Hall/Burnholme area, creating a network of support that covers the entire city.
Co-designed by the community, for the community
The 24/7 centre was co-designed by 10 experts by experience—individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges—who played a key role in shaping the centre’s vision and services. As part of their work, they came up with a shortlist of potential names for the centre, which we’re now sharing with you.
Your vote matters!
We’re asking for your help to choose the final name for the centre at Acomb Garth. The chosen name will also set the naming convention for the other two hubs, ensuring consistency and clarity across the city.
When voting, please keep in mind that the name should work well for all three locations and be inclusive, accessible, and easy to understand.
The name with the highest number of votes will be selected, with one exception: if the name is already in use or breaches any trademarks, we’ll move to the runner-up option.
