From 16 to 22 June 2025, York will mark Refugee Week with a wide range of events that highlight this year’s theme: Community as a Superpower. Organised by Refugee Action York (RAY), the programme brings together people from all backgrounds to learn, share, and celebrate together.
The week offers a vibrant mix of arts, food, music, discussion and family-friendly events across the city. Highlights include:

Children’s Art & Craft Workshop and Theatre of Connections performance on Saturday 14 June.

A round-table discussion – Building on community as a superpower for sanctuary on Monday 16 June, led by the University of York.

The RAY Curry & Quiz Fundraiser at The Parvin Restaurant in Haxby, Monday 16 June.

A music evening on Friday 20 June at Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church.

The return of RAY’s annual charity football tournament on Saturday 21 June at the University of York.
Events range from pop-up food stalls and community picnics to cinema clubs and exhibitions. Many are free or low-cost, and several are open only to RAY attendees to ensure a safe and welcoming space.
