The IT ReUse project, a collaborative effort by a group of organisations in York, is on a mission to reshape our relationship with technology while fostering digital inclusion and sustainability.
Digital Inclusion for All
At the core of IT ReUse’s mission is the belief that everyone should have access to essential digital services. They accept donations of IT equipment from the general public and local businesses and distribute these devices to individuals who may otherwise be left behind by the digital divide. The best part? They offer their services free of charge, ensuring that technology is a gateway to opportunity for all.
Supporting Businesses
IT ReUse isn’t just for individuals; businesses also have a vital role to play. If your business has surplus IT equipment to dispose of, IT ReUse offers a comprehensive solution. They provide free data destruction services and certificates, ensuring that sensitive information is handled securely and in compliance with GDPR regulations.
A Green Commitment
What sets IT ReUse apart is their unwavering commitment to the environment. They strive to refurbish and repair every device they receive, championing the principles of the circular economy. Any minimal waste generated is carefully collected by registered charities for recycling or further reuse.
A Force for Social Good
IT ReUse doesn’t stop at distributing devices. They also provide valuable volunteering and training opportunities to members of the community who face barriers to entering the workforce. By doing so, they create a pathway to a brighter future for individuals with disabilities or hardships.
How You Can Get Involved
If you’re inspired by the work of IT ReUse and want to contribute, here’s how you can help:
- Donate Devices: IT ReUse is in need of desktop and laptop computers manufactured after 1 January, 2009, as well as smartphones and tablets from 1 January, 2012 onwards. They can securely wipe your data and provide certificates on request.
- Spread the Word: Promote IT ReUse on your social media and marketing channels to help raise awareness of their vital work.
- Business Partnerships: If your business has surplus IT equipment, consider partnering with IT ReUse to make a positive impact on both the environment and the community.
Transforming technology into a force for good, IT ReUse is a fantastic example of how collective efforts can lead to a more inclusive and sustainable future.
