It’s Volunteers’ Week and an opportunity to say the biggest THANK YOU to all our volunteers and to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution they make across our city!
It’s estimated that across Humber and North Yorkshire, we have over *128,000 active Volunteers, who contribute over 9 million hours each year volunteering in our communities.
Over the past two years Volunteers have played a crucial role in the response to the pandemic, from delivering prescriptions to housebound or shielding residents, to supporting local food banks, and calling isolated and lonely people in our communities. Volunteers have been an enormous support and we can’t thank them enough for their contribution.
This support is still needed now more than ever as we manage the impacts of the pandemic. If you’ve been thinking about volunteering in your local community, visit our Volunteer Centre webpage to view all the latest volunteering opportunities.
‘The contribution of Volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering…the pandemic has raised the profile of volunteering and more people than ever are aware of the immense contribution being made by Volunteers’ – NCVO
This is the 38th annual Volunteers’ Week which takes place from 1-7 during the Month of Community. Running throughout June, #MonthOfCommunity brings together organisations with a range of events in order to encourage us all to think about and join in with activities happening in our local communities. You can find lots of activities happening across York by visiting the Live Well York website.
