The recently published Community Life Survey 2023-24 by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport highlights our region as having the highest rates of formal volunteering in the country at 21%, surpassing the England average of 16% and the Yorkshire and the Humber average of 15%.

This remarkable achievement showcases the dedication and generosity of those in our community who give their time to make a difference. Formal volunteering, as defined by the survey, includes unpaid help to groups or clubs—such as leading activities, providing administrative support, being part of mutual aid groups, or befriending and mentoring others.

We want to take a moment to thank all the volunteers across York who contribute so much to our city. Your efforts truly make York a better place to live, work, and thrive!
