The way the public want to communicate with the police is changing with many people wanting to speak to the police exclusively online, which is why North Yorkshire Police has a new team of Digital Police Community Support Officers (DPCSO’s). The team covers the whole of North Yorkshire and consists of experienced officers that engage with the community both digitally and in person at events. The team can also:
- Provide general advice and signposting for the public and partners
- Provide crime prevention advice and training
- Promote online safety
- Present online workshops
The DPCSOs also work with partner agencies and organisations to deliver projects on early intervention and prevention. They are still deployable and do take part in operational activities with Neighbourhood Police Teams and also attend public/partner/community events in person.
They work across social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp and can be invited into public groups to answer questions and provide advice. They can use private communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, this is generally how they take part in events and online workshops. They also utilise the North Yorkshire Community Messaging platform to send out local policing updates that are relevant for each geographical area.
Please get in touch with the DPCSO team if you would like assistance, advice or if you would like to work with them in any way. Email: digital.pcso@northyorkshire.police.uk
Please note: (Please do not report crime or incidents to the team. This must be done via 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in an emergency).
