City of York Council is consulting on proposals to introduce a bus priority route through Rougier Street, George Hudson Street and Micklegate.

Their proposed option is that buses, cycles and emergency services would be prioritised along those key streets. Car drivers will still be able to access the area, but won’t be able to drive through.

This start of an eight-week consultation will set out how the Rougier Route proposals could work, how it responds to resident, business and visitor needs, and the anticipated benefits and impacts.

The closing date for this first phase of consultation is Monday 12 January 2026.
