Say Something is a powerful three-phase research and creative project led by Night Light Theatre Company (NLT), in collaboration with York Bereavement Alliance and supported by York St John University (YSJ) and further professionals.
The project was inspired by the experiences of a bereavement practitioner from Bereaved Children Support York (BCSY), who recognised a pressing need for change through her work with bereaved children, young people, and families.
Phase One is now open for participants.
Adults aged 18 and over who experience the death of a parent, carer or sibling before the age of 16 are invited to take part in a short, confidential online questionnaire hosted by York St John University.
At the end of the questionnaire, participants can choose to register their interest in joining a one-to-one interview or a therapeutic group session, both led by a HCPC registered dramatherapist in a safe, supportive environment at St Leonard’s Hospice.
The insights gathered will inform Phase Two, which will develop creative responses such as a short film and workshops, followed by Phase Three, where these will be shared in schools and community settings to inspire open, compassionate conversations about grief.
Phase One is funded by Two Ridings Community Foundation, Say Something brings together bereavement expertise, creativity and community spirit to create meaningful change. (Funding for Phases Two and Three is yet to be sourced )
