Today is the third day of Small Charity Week and is ‘Discussion Day’. Here at York CVS, one of the ways we support York’s Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector is by providing opportunities to come together to discuss key issues within our city.
Yesterday, we brought the VCSE sector together with volunteers, individuals and other organisations, to discuss co-production in York. Through workshops, conversation cafes and general discussions, we came together to share our experiences about the challenges and barriers to co-production in York, so that we could start to identify solutions.
York Poverty Truth Commission
The York Poverty Truth Commission officially launched in March 2023 with an event bringing over 70 guests from across York together. Now in its second phase, the Community Commissioners (those with lived experience of poverty) will meet regularly with Civic Commissioners (those with decision making responsibilities) to discuss issues around poverty in York.
Here’s some other spaces where you can join discussions about key topics in York…
Join the York VCSE Assembly
The York VCSE Assembly is a regular space where, as a sector, we focus on key issues impacting our city’s communities. With a focus on health and wellbeing, the Assembly was established last year in preparation for the formal introduction of Integrated Care Systems (ICS) across England, which are the new approach to how health and care services are planned and delivered in England. Our Integrated Care System is Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
The Assembly acts as a mechanism to connect York’s VCSE sector with Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership via the VCSE Collaborative, and with the York Health and Care Partnership. The Assembly meets twice per quarter, this includes one smaller focused meeting and a larger meeting. Previous topics have included, Children and Young People’s Mental Health, Volunteering in Health and Care and Workforce. All VCSE organisation, regardless of size or areas of work are invited to join the VCSE Assembly meetings. The next meeting takes place on 12 July and will focus on health and care funding, book your place via the button below.
Join our Volunteer Management Forum
York Volunteers, York’s Volunteer Centre host a quarterly forum for Volunteer Managers and those in York’s VCSE sector who work with volunteers. It’s a chance to bring colleagues together to discuss volunteer management and learn about how others in the sector who manage volunteers are doing things. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and learn from each other’s experiences.
