York Together is inviting local people with good ideas the chance to pitch at its second community dinner, STEW, taking place on Wednesday 8 October, 6:15–9:00 pm at Bluebird Bakery, Acomb.
The event will see three York residents take the mic to share their vision for making York a fairer, more just, and more sustainable city. Each speaker will have four minutes to pitch their idea and will receive at least £100 in funding for their project. The audience will then decide how the rest of the prize pot is distributed on the night by voting for the idea they think will benefit the city the most.
Whether you’ve already got a grassroots project on the go, or just the seed of an idea you’d love to see take root, you’re invited to apply.
“STEW is about giving local people the chance to decide how funding is spent,” said Anjelica Finnegan, Development Lead for York Together. “It’s a fun and supportive event, where people can connect, listen, and decide collectively how to back grassroots action.”
Back in April, the first STEW event raised over £500 for three brilliant projects, including Make Space York, who work to create safer, more inclusive public spaces for girls. The energy in the room was full of warmth and a shared belief in doing things differently.
Abigail Gains from Make Space York said:
“I came away from the event with a full heart. I’m thrilled our project was chosen, especially among such brilliant and vital causes. It’s exciting to see York residents directly deciding what kind of city they want to build together.”
Pitching is open to everyone: individuals, groups, and collectives. You don’t need to be a registered charity or CIC or have an organisational bank account – just bring your idea and the will to make it happen.
