York Volunteers (York’s Volunteer Centre within York CVS) is here to support volunteering within voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations serving the York area and those with Volunteer management responsibilities within those organisations.
What we offer:
Promotion of your Volunteering Opportunities
Upload your volunteering opportunities to our free online Volunteering Platform. We will vet the opportunity, can give feedback for improvements and then endorse it so it appears on our Volunteering Opportunities Page which was viewed by roughly 10% of York last year. We will also promote your opportunities to our ever-growing mailing list of people waiting for the right opportunity to come along. We also have opportunities to share some roles on local radio and social media.
Advice & Volunteering Best Practice
If you’re a large charity or a small group that’s just established, we’ve got a wealth of experience managing volunteers and supporting volunteer managers with volunteers in a multitude of roles.
Whether you need helping making your Trustee role more enticing, developing a new role, writing volunteer handbooks or policies, need help finding other organisations, or help with a specific situation involving volunteers, we’re here to support you.
“Just to say a huge thanks for taking the time and energy – you’ve been so helpful and given a lot of food for thought.”

Training & Events
We organise events to help you to promote your volunteering opportunities or to support you with training needs or best practice.
Volunteer Management Forum
We hold quarterly Volunteer Management Forum events where those with volunteer management responsibilities within York’s VCSE Sector can come to network, discuss the latest developments in the sector and share best practice with one another.
Representation
We pass on your experiences as the local VCSE sector at a regional and national level and involve the local sector in national research or consultations and the development of new strategies, policies and initiatives at a city-wide, regional and national level.
Resources
We’re working on building a library of resources to support you. In future they’ll appear below; in the meantime don’t hesitate to get in contact with any queries you might have.
