Role description:
This is an ideal opportunity for volunteers who have a passion for supporting unpaid carers, to meet and greet carers who attend our regular Carers Hubs (carers meeting places) across the City. Supporting staff, volunteers would ensure a warm welcome to carers, providing refreshments and a ‘listening ear’, enabling carers to take a break from their caring role.
The Carers Hubs aim to support carers by offering the chance to meet with staff and volunteers from York Carers Centre in a relaxed setting; have a cuppa and talk with other carers; pick up information; learn more about how they can access help; and have a few hours respite from their caring role.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Good communication, interpersonal and listening skills would be helpful for this role.

What will the volunteer gain/benefit from:
This role provides the opportunity to building on existing communication, interpersonal and listening skills. All volunteers have access to staff support, a chance to meet other volunteers, access to all induction training such as Carer Awareness Training, Safeguarding Training, Young Carers, Young Adult Carers and Adult Carers online Training, as well as any other free training that is made available to us. In addition this role can be used as a platform to get involved in other volunteering opportunities at York Carers Centre.
