Location of voluntary activity:
The Carers’ Time Off service is delivered both in and outside the individual’s home, as agreed with the coordinator, within the Craven, Harrogate, or Selby areas.
When are volunteers needed: Typically 2–4 hours per week.
This can be during the day, evening, or weekend, on a regular or occasional basis.
Specific days and times should be agreed upon between the volunteer and the carer they are supporting.

Role description:
Purpose of the Role:
(1) To give carers of a partner, family member, or friend the opportunity to have a break from their caring responsibilities by providing 2–4 hours of companionship.
(2) To offer a positive and enjoyable experience for the person being supported.
Main Activities with the Supported Person:
(1) Providing companionship and helping to ensure the person’s safety.
(2) Offering a listening ear to the carer regarding their health and wellbeing.
(3) As agreed, taking the person out for a walk, coffee, or other activities approved by the coordinator, or staying indoors for activities such as:
Chatting / Playing games like Scrabble / Enjoying crafts / Watching TV etc
Activities NOT Included:
(1) Assisting with toileting or personal care
(2) Administering medication
(3) Performing nursing tasks
(4) Doing housework or shopping for the person
(5) Moving or handling the person
* DBS and two references check required *
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
No previous experience is required.
Just a genuine caring nature and a willingness to help.
However, with below qualities, you can be a supportive volunteer:
(1) Being non-judgmental
(2) Showing empathy
(3) Active listening
(4) Good communication skills
