York Disability Week (25 Nov – 3 Dec 2023), now celebrating its seventh year, is back with over 30 events taking place throughout the city and online.

Each year during Disability History Month and coinciding with The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 Dec) organisations and individuals supported by York Human Rights City Network come together to organise and hold York Disability Week. During this week-long programme activities are held across the city.

Highlights of the week include ice-skating at the Designer Outlet, an inclusive poetry evening and a dementia-friendly film showing. Those interested in exercise and music can explore offerings like exercise classes for individuals with Parkinson’s, taster sessions for accessible rugby, and music/movement groups for learning-disabled adults.

The event also features talks and discussions on a range of topics, including living with chronic illness, sharing disability stories online, the experiences of families with disabled children, and more. There are also opportunities to connect with social and support groups, drop-in sessions, and exhibitions.
