In October 2021, we held two initial meetings (one online and one in person) to begin to understand what might be needed in York from a Poverty Truth Commission (PTC). There are other PTC’s across the country, but we wanted to understand what one might look like specifically in our city.
How the Poverty Truth Commission will work moving forwards…
Although we (York CVS) hosted this particular meeting, it should be noted that the PTC will be jointly held and designed by all of those individuals involved. This initial meeting has been a way to get the conversation started and explore whether there’s a desire and an ambition to create one in the city.
From what was discussed at the event, it’s clear that there is definitely energy to begin the process of creating a PTC together, however it may eventually look.
